Frog Books launches its sixth book
Mumbai, 19 April 2004:
Frog
Books, a one-year-old book publishing house based here,
has launched its sixth book, Where Doves Fly,
written by Kamlesh Rajesham.
Where Doves Fly,
a children’s book with an anti-war perspective, was
launched by distinguished journalist and writer Kumar
Ketkar, who edits Loksatta, the largest-selling
city-based Marathi daily, at the Press Club, Mumbai.
London-based writer and poet Sudeep Sen
and well-known author and columnist V Gangadhar too
spoke on the occasion.
Talking about the book publishing
industry in India, Ketkar said: “Ventures like Frog
Books deserve kudos. Publishing books has become a less
lucrative business, and people are shying away from it.
This attitude should change. People should read more;
that’s how sound minds could be cultivated. For this,
more and more quality ventures like this should happen.”
Said Sen: “I am on brief visit to Mumbai,
and it is heartening to know that there are ventures
like these that are coming out with quality books and I
am pleasantly surprised that people here really care for
the words.”
Gangadhar too echoed the same sentiment.
“I am here only because this is a noble act and I am too
happy that there are committed publishers who are
painstakingly caring to publish books in an environment
where there are financial risks.”
Later, Rajesham spoke about her work and also read out
excerpts from it. “Though this is a children’s book, it
is written for an adult mind, and I am overwhelmed by
the love, affection and support the people of Mumbai has
given me. Thank you.”
Rajesham practised
as a lawyer for a couple of years in India before she
lived in America and Canada for a decade. She also
earned a masters degree in business administration from
Pennsylvania, USA. He first book, Straight From the
Soul, is a New Age / Metaphysics book. This is her
second book and the first one in the children’s book
category.
